The hotel is nestled within its own grounds in the main pedestrian area in York city centre, and so our guests find themselves right in the heart of York, within the ancient city walls, in the shadow of York Minster and just a stone's throw from all York's major attractions and shops.

Having undergone a complete and sympathetic renovation - retaining and restoring a wealth of original features while remodelling bathrooms in luxurious style, you will now experience a new level of comfort in this historically important building.

History...
The building itself is impressive, and has a rich history, being built around 1710 by an eminent York Physician, Dr Winteringham whose son became surgeon to H.M. King George III. In 1806, it became the official residence of the Assize Court Judges and remained so until the 1970s when it was converted into the small & friendly hotel it is today.

Last but not least is our limited car park available by prior arrangement at the time of booking. Charges apply. Alternatively, there are numerous car parks nearby, and we are just a short walk from York Railway Station.
